HAHO

You say ADHD

I say stop judging me

Your acronym tastes acrid

This deficit model is your convention

But there’s nothing lacking in my attention.

My attention is high and flighty

My concentration strong and mighty.

Perhaps if you were not so boring

My focus would not be withdrawing.

So, the AD is not worth the mention,

Let’s change it to HA- High Attention.

High Attention is what I got

It just happens to jump around a lot.

Why think about one thing

When I can ponder on five?

My mind likes to wander

It keeps me alive.

The links I make may seem abstract

But I’m not limited by linear facts

Why would I want to stay on track?

Ok- now the H.

Hyperactive- that one I’ll concede.

My train of thought runs at great speed.

But not on tracks, if you‘ll recall,

This train can drive you up the wall.

And round the bend, and over the top

This is the train that never stops.

This is the little train that could

And would and should and does it good.

This little train is off the rails

But this little train lives in the details.

With High Attention some might say,

So, try to not get in its way.

Some of this stuff is hard to unpick,

With Autism too, in the mix,

I’m upside down on a box of tricks.

But this how I get my kicks.

What was I saying?

Oh yes- Hyperactive.

That part certainly seems attractive.

What are we left with?

Only the ‘D’,

The part the most offensive to me.

My way of being is not a dis-order

That is just another border.

My train, you’ll remember does not stick to the route

So, lets give the disorder border the boot.

High Attention Hyperactive Order.

HAHO.

HAHO, HAHO, it’s off to work we go!
